Last week Alan had a week off of work. We really couldn't think of anywhere to go that would not envolve a ton of driving. All my kids get car sick, so a road trip was out of the question. We decided to vacation around Salt Lake City.
One day we went to the Eccles Dinosaur Park in Ogden. The kids loved it. No one got hurt taking this photo. After the park, we went shopping at Smith and Edwards. That is a HUGE store. It was funny and country. One whole isle of the toy section was toy tractors. I never knew there were so many different kinds of tractors. Another day we went to the Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy. Kat went with us that day. My rule is never let Caleb out of the stroller. Alan insited he get out. Alan was good about staying with Caleb. He now knows why I never let him out. Also with Alan there, it was easier to keep track of three kids. Usually I am on my own. I had watched Shark Week on Discovery channel the week before with Chloe. She was nervous when we got there that a shark was going to get her. She was soon at ease, but would not touch the sting rays.
Another day we went to Liberty Park. I put the kids in their swim suit intending on playing in the water there. It was all dried up. We let the kids ride a few of the rides, ate the lunch we packed, and found the playground there. There was a fountain in the playground, so it was not a total loss. The kids had a great time just playing with each other.
The last day we went to the Discovery Gateway. That place is amazing. There were toys everywhere. The kids could have played there forever. The downstairs was designed more for Chloe and Caleb. The upstaris was more for Hannah. The kids never got tired of playing. We were there for 3 hours and had to drag the little ones away.
I am glad Alan was with us. I could not have handeled the three of them on my own. Each place was huge, and the kids would try to wander off. It was great to be a family for a week. We were home in time for dinner each night and were able to sleep in our own beds. The kids were so excited to have Alan with us, that I was almost ignored some times. They would always show him something before me.
We had a great time. We did not spend money on souviniers or fast food. Maybe next time Alan is off of work we will go somewhere exctiing, but it was fun hanging around town.

What a fun way to vacation...I loved how you did things locally. Thanks for the ideas on fun places to take my kids.
I totally agree with the local vacation. After a miserable failure of a weekend trip this summer, we resigned ourselves to exploring the city we live in and have loved it. Nothing better than sleeping in your own bed.
I think a local vacation is a great idea, especially when the Daddy gets to join you. Sounds like you guys at a great time. I got some good ideas for our next local vacation. It was fun to see you last week. I miss seeing you more often.
That is such a neat idea. I think we need to do that sometime too. Thanks for sharing all the fun places there are to visit around here!
